The property, made up of 500 units of residential living, had seen water
and sewer charges go up over 40% in one year. Aqualine was contacted to
analyze the opportunity to implement its water saving program for the
property.

Solution
Residential properties typically utilize most of their water consumption
in the toilets, sinks and showers. Aqualine looked at the cost and return
on investment of installing its domestic water program for the site. The
program was installed in May 1998.
Savings
The owner of the property completed a study one year after implementation
of the program. It is as follows:
- Average gallons consumed per year, for the three year period ending
May 1998, equaled 18.0 million gallons.
- One year after installation, the consumption was 10.9 million gallons.
- Reduction in water usage equated to 39%.
- Average cost of water per year for the three year period ending May
1998 equaled $76,730.
- One year after installation, the cost of water was $48,659.
Payback
Payback on the cost of installation was 9 months.
